March for the alternative
On Saturday March 26 I joined an estimated crowd of between 250,000 and 500,000 demonstrators who wanted to let the government in the UK know that they do not support the harsh cuts on public spending which are being proposed. I joined in at Hyde Park where the march terminated and the speeches were delivered. Later I was on Trafalgar Square to soak up the atmosphere of protesters making fires, singing, drinking and generally having a fine old time. Later on there was some bottle throwing which was a pity since the whole day had been one of general goodwill between the marches and the police (who after all are also subject to the cuts and thus in no hurry to use unnecessary force).
